When I came to Deseret Industries, I had been unemployed for three years. I couldn’t understand why. I had a good resume and was as capable as any other employee. As a result of this trial, I lost most of my self-esteem. I had become depressed and was suffering financially. So, from the very start, I worked with my development counselor on a list of things I could do to improve my outlook and my situation.
I was encouraged to continue looking for a good job, but I also was informed that I could enroll in technical training. I took tests that would help me discover areas that I was interested in and that I would do well in. Deseret Industries paid for me to enroll in a nail tech program. While I worked at DI, I was able to attend classes. The staff at DI were willing to accommodate my new schedule so that I would have time for homework. I attended classes full-time and then worked as often as I could.
Through persistence and patience, I completed school and passed my written boards and practical exam with a 97% score. I graduated at the top of my class and now have my license as a nail technician. I have a wonderful new career. Thank you, DI!
