I became very ill for several months with a virus that attacked my nervous system. It took a lot out of me and I had to stop working my full-time job to try and get better. When I felt ready to return to work, my bishop referred me to Deseret Industries.
The entire staff at DI was very good to me. We all had a good working relationship and it was a positive environment. This positive influence helped me the most. My job coach was there whenever I wanted to talk. My development specialist was there to help me get the training I needed. My mentor became one of my very best friends and was a big support. Then, I quickly became a team lead and tried to help others move forward. This experience helped me to see my potential and helped me move ahead towards success.
It was my job coach and development specialist who helped me set goals that would lead to a career. These goals included receiving my high school diploma and becoming a certified nursing assistant. I went and finished school and completed my CNA training. I now have a full-time career at a local hospital.
I have many blessings in my life. I am married to a wonderful husband and have two amazing children. My ward family is such a wonderful support. It was while I worked at DI, that I met with the full-time missionaries who helped me become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, changing my life completely.
I am grateful for the DI transformation in my life. Today, I am able to realize that I can do anything I put my mind to and that I can be a positive influence for others. I can truly say that I believe in myself and the many things that I have to offer.
“This experience helped me to see my potential and helped me move ahead towards success.”
