After spending 25 years at its original location, our new Deseret Industries store in Tucson, Arizona—located at 3850 W. Orange Grove Road—opened its doors on February 10. Like all DI stores, the new location serves as a job training facility, donation center, and retail outlet. It will employ eight full-time workers, provide coaching for up to 60 associates at any given time, and offer a wide variety of thrifted goods to thousands of customers.
“The new store will offer everything that DI can offer,” says store manager Gary Nelson. “It will be much easier for patrons to get to, and there will be a bigger selection of everything.”
The new Tucson Deseret Industries Thrift Store and Donation Center was dedicated by Bishop L. Todd Budge, Second Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric, during a small ceremony held on February 9. The new location is closer to the Tucson Arizona Temple and has many significant improvements, including more than 15,000 square feet of retail space (an upgrade from 10,000 at the original location) and dedicated space for employee training and coaching.
The facility also houses other services and resources. The new location will include Family Services, Development Counseling Services, and Employment Services in addition to Deseret Industries Thrift Store and Donation Center.
While the new location has many benefits for patrons, the facility will greatly contribute to the success of the employees and their development. Deseret Industries assists its employees with paid certificate programs, job ready training, and other life skills that will make them valuable employees in future positions.
