It’s one thing to have a job that pays you for work—it’s another to have a job that also pays you for personal growth. Adoum has experienced this while working as an associate at Deseret Industries. Thanks to the satisfaction he has felt, he has realized how much he loves his job and how much he wants to continue growing while working at DI.
“I like working here,” Adoum says. “I enjoy the work that I do—I do good work.”
In his role, Adoum is responsible for helping customers at the donation drive-thru. Collecting donations is the first step in the process that each item goes through before hitting the retail floor. Each step gives associates in the DI job training program the opportunity to learn important job skills that improve their future employment prospects.
While working at DI, Adoum has built valuable connections with his coworkers. Collaborating with them has helped him to improve his skills and gain valuable experience working on a team.
“I like my coworkers,” Adoum says. “We do good work together.”
These connections have also helped Adoum feel that he is a part of something greater, giving him a stronger sense of purpose in his work. Adoum feels support from everyone in the DI system, including his team members, supervisor, and development counselor.
“I like that my boss helps me,” Adoum says. “I learn new things from him, and he helps me improve my skills.”
Together, associates and DI staff work to create plans and set goals for associates to develop. Ultimately, DI aims to provide associates with the tools and skills they need to create better lives for themselves.
“I feel that I am learning and growing,” Adoum says.
