Olive understands how difficult it can be to make sacrifices. Near the end of 2021, she left her native country of Sierra Leone to come to the United States with her husband. In the process, Olive left behind family members, friends, and the small business she ran out of her home.
Although the move has been challenging, Olive is doing her part to become self-reliant. She obtained a job as a DI associate and is using the earnings to help support her family, including assisting her daughter who is attending college in Sierra Leone.
Working as an associate has been a transition for Olive, particularly because she was her own boss while owning a business. However, Olive is taking advantage of the opportunity to learn US business culture, which is one important aspect of her experience at DI.
Like all DI associates, Olive is also developing important workplace habits and skills as part of DI’s job training program. Olive has found great support from her job coach, enjoys her responsibilities, and especially loves her co-workers.
“I like the job," Olive says. "I have good friends. They are all nice. We love each other.”
