Meet Jim: Associate Profile

Meet DI associate Jim—or Jimbo, as he goes by. Thirteen years ago, Jimbo suffered a stroke, which significantly changed his life. He spent two years learning how to walk again and also had to learn how to speak again. It has been a long journey for Jimbo, but he sees DI as an important stop along the way.

“I got more experience talking to other workers, and [my speech] has improved,” Jimbo says. “When I started, you could not understand me.”

Jimbo was referred to DI when the company he was previously working for went out of business. He has now been at DI for a year and greatly enjoys the opportunity to interact with others.

“I like the people,” Jimbo says. “They are good to me and good to get along with.”

Another aspect of the job that Jimbo enjoys is the responsibility of operating a forklift. Jimbo became a forklift operator many years ago at age 17 and has loved applying the skill in his current job. He has shown such great competency in the task that his job coach gave him a special assignment.

“He made me lead man,” Jimbo says.
