Heidi felt down and out before her time at Deseret Industries. She felt unable to return to school or start a new career because, after having five kids, she was a little older than the average student. On top of that, she was also unsure about working after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a few years ago.
“I thought, ‘I’m too weak, I can’t'—but I finally decided to look past that, and I decided that I’m not going to let that hold me back. I’m going to move on and work on me and my family,” says Heidi.
With the encouragement of her job coaches, development counselor, and fellow associates at DI, Heidi has hope for the future. “Everyone here—they’ve lifted my spirits,” she says. “I’ve never worked a job like this before—where people are happy, and they want you to be successful.”
Heidi is now working toward becoming a dental hygienist—which has been her dream job all along.
