How Employment Services Helps Deseret Industries Associates

Did you know that Deseret Industries’ goal is to help associates move onto new jobs and create better lives for themselves? Associates at DI go through a job training program that prepares them with the experience and skills necessary to obtain better work.   

For example, Arnie received personalized help and job coaching while an associate at DI. He was able to transition from working in DI's processing area to working in a warehouse for a local business.  

The road for DI associates to improve their lives is often supported by Employment Services as well. DI associates receive personalized help from experts at Employment Services who support with job seeking and career goals.  

What is Employment Services?  

Employment Services provides resources that help job seekers find better employment opportunities. These resources include:  

  • Group mentoring and networking.

  • Job search skills workshops.

  • Personalized coaching throughout their job search.

Employment Services offers the same help provided to DI associates to anyone from the public. Job seekers can get in-person support at an Employment Center or virtually through the Employment Services website.

How Does Employment Services Help DI Associates?  

DI associates receive direct access to Employment Services while enrolled in the job training program. Employment Services staff work with DI associates who will soon start looking for better work based on their current employment experience.  

Employment Services teaches the Job Search Skills Workshop to DI associates. Associates attend the workshop as part of their work day as they prepare to transition to a new job. The workshop helps DI associates prepare to answer questions like:  

  • What work experience do you have?  

  • What work do you hope to do in the future?  

  • What are your current skills?  

After establishing these goals and expectations, Employment Services staff then help associates master skills like:  

  • Delivering a personal professional pitch in 30 seconds.  

  • Creating a resume. 

  • Developing essential interview skills and other job search skills the associate needs help with.

How DI Associates Become Strong Job Candidates  

Every week, associates participating in the job search skills workshop get a new training assignment to work on. The training builds on the skills learned the previous week.  

As associates learn job search skills, they learn more about themselves, including what skills they have to offer an employer. Employment Services also help associates discover how to best share and present those skills during interviews, on their resume and job applications.  

DI associates who complete the workshop build confidence, are better prepared, and gain valuable networking connections. As a result, they find more job opportunities.

As DI associates receive job search support from Employment Services, they build valuable connections with the staff. These connections often last well beyond the job search training, as Employment Services staff remain committed to supporting associates even after the training is complete.

As DI associates progress in the training, they gain confidence and present themselves more confidently to employers. They are able to leverage their job search skills to reach their employment goals. With the help of Employment Services, DI associates are creating better lives for themselves.
