Why Tucson Locals Love Deseret Industries for Thrifting

Did you know that the Tucson Deseret Industries has been a community cornerstone since the late 1990s? Originally located in a shopping center near Grant Road and First Avenue, it began as more than just a thrift store—it was a place of hope and opportunity. Now conveniently located near Interstate 10 at Orange Grove, this DI continues to serve the community in a big way.

More Than a Thrift Store

Tucson’s Deseret Industries does so much more than sell affordable treasures—it changes lives. The store provides a fresh start for people facing challenges like limited work experience, disabilities, or language barriers. Through hands-on training, team members gain valuable skills, boost their confidence, and work toward brighter futures.

DI is also a welcoming place for refugees in Tucson, helping them improve their English, get used to local culture, and build strong work habits. Plus, the store works with nonprofits to provide essentials like clothing and household items to families who need them most.

Find a Treasure with a Story

Every corner of Tucson’s store is filled with the promise of something extraordinary. It’s a place where items come with stories waiting to be told. Take, for instance, the nine-foot rustic dining table recently in the store. It’s said to have been crafted from a castle door, complete with a keyhole, blending history and character perfectly.

But that’s just one example. From rare collectibles to quirky pieces, every visit offers a chance to stumble upon something that sparks joy and creativity. You might even leave with a conversation starter that adds personality and charm to your home.

Empowering the Community

In addition to the Deseret Industries thrift store and donation center, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also operates an Employment Center and Family Services Office in the facility.

  • Employment Services: The employment center is a place where anyone looking for a job can come to:

  • Receive personalist, face-to-face job coaching from an experienced employment advisor

  • Prepare for job interview

  • Use computers and phones to make networking contacts and apply for jobs

  • Get help creating or updating their resume

  • Family Services: The Family Services office provides access to mental health care and other resources through referrals from local bishops, ensuring compassionate support for those in need.

Tucson’s DI combines affordable shopping with life-changing services, creating an environment where people can grow and thrive.
