I began a long, 10-year addiction to alcohol, prescription drugs, and eventually meth following a divorce and back surgery. I found myself in trouble with the law and eventually received a conviction for DUI. I was sentenced to three years of probation if I would participate in a substance abuse program. The treatment program required me to have a job. With my career ended, I did not know where I could go. I was directed to Deseret Industries (DI) to receive that second chance I so desperately needed.
I struggled to get back into the routine of work, but with the help of a good job coach and the development team, I was able to set goals and progress. One of those goals was to become a lead over other associates in my area. As I reached this goal, my confidence grew, as did my feelings of self-worth. It felt good to help others reach their daily goals. During my time at DI, I led three different departments.
I now have a new career in a retail store and am on my way to becoming a manager there as well. I have two years being clean, and I walk with my head held high. I know that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.
Everyone at DI has helped me to change my life forever. I will never forget how they helped me on my journey to a better life. Thank you so much.
