I spent two years in a local women’s correctional center. When it was my turn to go on work release, I went to my LDS branch president and asked for a referral to Deseret Industries. He explained to me that the donations from many caring individuals provide the sacred funds to pay for the training of DI associates.
I began my training at DI and learned so much! I participated in a career workshop and learned merchandising, cashiering, values and ethics, budgeting, and many other subjects. After a while, I was made lead merchandiser, which I really enjoyed. I also wanted to get my forklift operator certificate, which I earned.
I was released on parole at the same time as I completed my job training at Deseret Industries. I have found a position as a caretaker of an elderly woman who has Alzheimer’s. In the future, I plan to use my forklift experience at the logging company my father started and which my brother now runs.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience working at Deseret Industries. Deseret Industries truly is the Lord’s work.
