I had worked at Deseret Industries in the past, but my second experience was different because I had the motivation to succeed. I had a family to take care of that was depending on my success.
My first assignment was on the donation dock, but I struggled with attendance. With the support of my job coach and mentor, I improved my attendance. Eventually, I was moved to work in the electronics processing area. I enjoyed working with electronics. Because of my interest, I was given an opportunity to have electronics training and receive certification.
Toward the end of my training at Deseret Industries, I was placed in the Advanced Placement Program. This experience provided me with valuable job searching skills. Deseret Industries contacted a computer company and arranged for my participation in a business partnership. DI paid my wages to that I could have an opportunity to apply the skills I learned. This business partnership led to employment with the company.
I am thankful for the staff at Deseret Industries. They were able to guide, direct, teach, and help me overcome my barriers to employment and eventually helped me find a great job.
“This business partnership led to employment with the company.”
