I came to Deseret Industries as an unemployed graduate student who needed a part-time job to pay expenses. I knew very little about the DI training program, but I did know that I liked to shop at DI and had always found the employees friendly and helpful. I was thrilled when I learned that I qualified for the program.
Years ago, I had made a mistake with the law. I had the education and experience to teach middle school language arts, but because of this mistake I found myself unemployable. Thanks to the guidance and unfailing enthusiasm of my development specialist, I was invited to participate in two business partnerships teaching adult basic education and GED preparation classes. These partnerships aligned beautifully with my education and experience and gave me hope for the future.
While working as a DI associate and gaining invaluable skills in the adult education field, I gradually rebuilt the confidence I had lost during many years of setbacks. Deseret Industries gave me an opportunity to begin anew and re-enter the workforce in a meaningful way. Because of DI, I established new connections and eventually found employment in a job that I am passionate about.
With the support and guidance of Deseret Industries, I was able to make a smooth transition back into the workforce. I am determined and focused, so I might have been able to do it on my own, but I doubt it. The kindness, caring, and understanding of my job coach, development specialist, and the entire management team, assured me that I was not alone in my struggle. At DI there were good people who were ready to lend the support that I needed. I will always be deeply grateful to Deseret Industries for the positive direction my life has taken.
