I found myself needing a job to support myself and my children. I had been out of the work force for six years and knew that it would be difficult to find a job. After not having much success, a friend asked our bishop to come to my home to visit with me. He explained the program offered at Deseret Industries.
My first position at the DI was in the clothing department, but I was soon moved into domestics, working with bedding, curtains, towels, and so forth. Because of the great instruction and such positive feedback, I soon regained confidence in my abilities and built back up the self-esteem I lacked. The experience gave me such a powerful outlook for the future.
I will always be thankful for the training I received at Deseret Industries. I am grateful for all the blessings I have received and friendships I have made from working with the staff and associates. I am especially thankful for my job coaches who helped change my life for the better. I had been working at DI for three months when my job coach, my friend, referred me to a job opening at a publishing firm. After two interviews, I was offered the position as the marketplace manager. I now not only have a job that I love but a career.
“I am grateful for all the blessings I have received and friendships I have made from working with the staff and associates.”
