You are probably aware that Deseret Industries is a place for people to gain work skills that prepare them to obtain better jobs, but did you know that DI can also be a place to find a future spouse? 

Kandi attended orientation on her first day at Deseret Industries about a year and a half ago when she met her now-husband, who was also starting his first day as a DI associate.

“I’m actually a second generation ‘find your spouse at DI,’” Kandi says. “In this DI location specifically, my mom and dad met.” 

However, Kandi didn’t come to work at DI to find love. Her bishop encouraged her to apply after she had been out of the workforce for several years. 

“My dad had a stroke in 2014. I had just left a job and took care of my dad for eight years,” Kandi explains.

Kandi’s experience taking care of her dad helped her realize that she wanted to become a medical assistant. But prior to working at DI, she didn’t have any way of achieving that goal. 

“I've always wanted to be involved in medical stuff. I just couldn't afford to until I came here,” Kandi says. “I would have never gone to school if DI wasn't willing to help me.” 

Kandi is now almost done with medical assistant school and will receive a medical assistant certificate. Until then, she is working as a lead at Deseret Industries, learning leadership skills and how to inspire her team.
