Brian is unlocking new opportunities to grow his career through the job training program at Deseret Industries. Working in this program has given him valuable experience and is teaching him how to be a better employee.
“I work in the large as-is department (which processes large furniture items such as couches, dressers, and tables),” Brian says. “I manage the items and work with customers to help facilitate the pick-up process.”
In his job, Brian is learning skills like organization, time management, and customer service. He is also practicing important workplace behaviors like teamwork, professionalism, and dependability.
DI associates like Brian work under the direction of supervisors who provide coaching and mentoring. This better enables associates to grow in their capacity to get work done and become strong candidates for future employment opportunities.
“My job coach is helping me work on good customer service,” Brian says. “I am focusing on my communication skills and active listening skills. Working here has helped me learn how to help customers and help them have a good experience shopping at DI.”
Through focused training, Brian is making progress every day and is recognizing his own growth in the program. He feels confident in his ability to succeed in a future workplace.
“I have worked with Employment Services to apply for jobs,” Brian says. “I would like to do something that is customer service oriented after I finish working at DI.”
