As a cashier at Deseret Industries, Marissa has made a lot of friends. She has regular customers who will come through her line just to chat with her, and she also enjoys getting dinner with her fellow associates.

 

“I’m kind of a shy person,” Marissa says. “Being a cashier helps me get to know people. I like the social aspect of it.”

 

Being more comfortable talking to people is just one of the ways Marissa has grown since coming to Deseret Industries. When Marissa started working at DI, she had recently experienced a broken engagement and needed to move in with her grandparents.

 

Now, Marissa has new dreams for her future. With the help of DI, Marissa is returning to school with plans to become an administrative assistant. 

 

“In five years, I hope that I have a good job and that I can support myself without any help,” says Marissa.
