Deseret Industries would be nothing without loyal customers like Ashlie!
As a mom of five, Ashlie frequently comes to DI for books, sports equipment, and clothing for her children.
“Financially, it really helps,” says Ashlie. “You can find tons of really good clothes in good condition. They don’t look secondhand, so all my kids are happy. I also always find really good kid shoes here.”
Ashlie’s children also enjoy coming to DI with their mom. While Mom’s first stop is usually the yard area, her kids love the toys and games sections of the store. Ashlie also likes shopping for herself at DI—especially in the women’s clothing section, where she can find name-brand dresses for only $5 to $7.
“I love DI because of the anticipation of what you’re going to find. It’s always different.”
Shoppers like Ashlie play a vital role in the work of Deseret Industries. In-store sales support the cost of DI’s employment program, which aims to help individuals with barriers to employment. These barriers may include physical and mental disabilities, criminal histories, homelessness, and more.
DI seeks to provide a safe environment, where everyone with a desire to become self-reliant can work and learn the job skills they need to be successful long-term. Employees work with job coaches to learn specific tasks, like sorting, pricing, inventory, and visual retail standards.
Associates also work with development counselors to build confidence, practice public speaking, and learn job interview skills. In some cases, DI will even fund additional learning courses, educational opportunities, and certification classes.
Thanks, Ashlie, for your continued support of DI!
