Deseret Industries associate Bushra is the kind of person who will always bloom where she is planted. Even in the difficult storms of life that her family has endured, she has faced the future with hard work, optimism, and hope.
Bushra’s journey to working at DI started when she came from India to the United States to make money and help her family.
“My friends suggested that I come to work at DI,” Bushra recalls. “I have some difficulties working, but they told me that I could get a job here.”
Bushra is now an associate in the DI job training program, through which she is learning important workplace behaviors like teamwork, dependability, and productivity. She is very grateful for the opportunity to gain experience and improve her skills.
“I like the hands-on experience that I get,” Bushra says. “I learn a lot.”
Bushra also appreciates feeling supported at DI. The friendly working environment helps associates grow their skills and confidence as employees.
“The people are loving and kind,” Bushra says. “Everyone is so helpful.”
As part of the job training program, associates like Bushra are assigned to work under the direction of an operational supervisor, who functions as a job coach. Through this support, DI associates develop important workplace skills to prepare them for better employment opportunities.
“My job coach is wonderful,” Bushra says. “He helps me every day.”
With the support of her team and other associates, Bushra is growing in her abilities as a capable and dependable employee. As she improves her skills and gains more experience, Bushra is preparing to reach her goals that she has for after working at DI.
“I want to start a food business,” she says. “I know how to cook well, and that is my plan once I learn what I need to learn here.”
Even though life has not been easy for Bushra, she perseveres. Bushra is just one of the many DI associates using the DI job training program to bloom where they are planted and reach their dreams of self-reliance.
