I battled drug addiction for 20 years. Finally, I was able to quit. However, because I had spent such a long time on drugs, it was a challenge to work without them. I wasn’t sure I could do it. I was told to give Deseret Industries a try. “No way!” I thought, “Deseret Industries only helps those with disabilities.” I was wrong. DI helps many people, from many different faiths and backgrounds, improve their employment opportunities.
I finally gave in and went for an interview at the DI. There wasn’t an opening in the training program at that time, so I was told to call back every week. Every week I called. After waiting a long three months, I became very impatient and difficult on the phone. Nevertheless, they found a place for me and gave me a chance. It didn’t take long before I realized just how much they cared. I know with all of my heart that everybody at DI wants you to succeed—from the manager, to the development counselor, to the job coaches.
DI has helped me so much. It has given me the confidence to know I can work clean. I have learned to set goals and reach them. Although there were occasional conflicts, we learned valuable lessons about how to overcome them by working together as a team. I love the fact that at Deseret Industries we are helping people get good products at a good price.
I tell people to donate to Deseret Industries. Many people, like me, need your help. I will always love DI.
