My sister immigrated to the United States from Nepal twenty-five years ago, and then she brought over my parents. My sister asked that I come for a visit because my father was declining in health. After a few months, I realized that my father’s condition was getting worse. My sister asked me if I could stay, so I began the process of obtaining a work permit, finding a job, and bringing my wife over to be with me. I found a position as a manager of a neighborhood convenience store, but there was no future for me there. There was no future in my business in Nepal either, because of the political turmoil at that time. I knew I needed to make a permanent change and begin a new life in the United States. My sister introduced me to an LDS bishop. This good bishop referred me to Deseret Manufacturing.
Deseret Manufacturing provided an opportunity for me to gain new skills. I did well at the factory and soon moved to the lead position where I assisted in the supervision of 13 associates. My job coach and my development specialist then encouraged me to pursue accounting. I had a degree in business administration, so accounting fit well into my existing set of skills and experience.
I completed my accounting certificate and am in contact with a large bank. My accounting certificate is a great achievement and will open the doors to a great position. I am very grateful for the DI experience. I am also grateful for my sister, who was not a member of the LDS Church, but who told me everything she knew about the Mormons and introduced me to an LDS bishop. I investigated the Church and was baptized. I am now an elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“My accounting certificate is a great achievement and will open the doors to a great position.”
