I liked the job I had at a computer company, but there was little opportunity for progress and I needed something better to provide for my young family. I came to Deseret Industries with faith, hope, and a plan. My plan was threefold: to finish school in computer repair, work on my resume and interview skills with the Employment Resource Services missionaries, and find better employment. I was determined and never deviated from my plan. From day one I knew why I was at Deseret Industries and worked hard to meet my goals.
I was thankful to be at DI and was willing to do whatever I was asked to do. I have difficulty walking, so I was assigned to the clothing area—with all women. I tried to bring a little excitement and life to our area and encourage my coworkers through their challenges. The result was that I developed amazing relationships with those I worked with.
With the help and encouragement of Deseret Industries, I finished school and was prepared to find a better job. I had many different interviews, but it seems like even though I was very qualified, I would just miss getting the job. I was discouraged, but persistent. I eventually found a good job with benefits doing computer troubleshooting.
I appreciate my opportunity to participate in the training program at Deseret Industries. I try to continue to support the program with the skills I have learned by helping to fix the computers of associates who need to meet action steps of their own. Thank you, DI.
