I had been unemployed for over three months when I began at Deseret Industries (DI). I was deeply discouraged and depressed. I am a hard worker and had never before experienced difficulty obtaining or retaining employment.
My first assignment was on the sales floor in the books and collectibles department. I enjoyed the challenge of sorting and shelving the donated books for sale. I was next offered an opportunity to move to the small-as-is processing line. Management felt that my speed and dedication would be a great asset to the team. Their goal was to train me as a pricer, the most important position on the line. With training from my job coach, I was able to do the job with a high level of competency. As time progressed, I was moved to pricing collectibles.
The support and encouragement of the management team at DI has boosted both my confidence and self-worth. They are dedicated to helping each associate and our team to become the best we can be. My job coach always made sure that I set and worked to reach my individual goals each week. I appreciate all of the encouragement and support I received to reach my job and career goals.
I would recommend the DI to anyone in transition. Besides learning great job skills, it is a wonderful place to grow as an individual. I am grateful for this opportunity to stretch myself. Through this experience I have seen the Lord’s hand in my life. I am truly blessed.
“I appreciate all of the encouragement and support I received to reach my job and career goals.”
