To find a good job, I needed to improve my English. My bishop referred me to the Humanitarian Center to participate in the Deseret Industries training program. The Humanitarian Center is a wonderful place to meet new friends from a wide variety of cultures.
While I received job training and attended English classes, I learned many things that were new to me, such as safety training and leadership skills. As I got better on my job, I was promoted and was cross-trained in different positions. My job coach was always there to help me learn each new assignment and adapt to my new responsibilities. Eventually, I was promoted to a position where I train others on new jobs and safety. I was also responsible for assuring quality and assisting with interviews. Because of my improved English, I was asked to help as a translator.
With the help of many people, such as my job coach, mentor, development counselor, ESL teachers, and Church-service missionaries, I have had the opportunity to improve myself and my situation. I have a better life now and am looking forward to a bright future.
