I was born in the Philippines, but later moved to the United States. I struggled with finding work to maintain a desirable living and promising future. The transition to leave behind family and friends in search of a better life seemed uncertain, but my faith kept me hopeful about the future.
I was introduced to the Church by a man who would later become my husband. Daniel was a less active member of the Church, but the programs of his Church sparked my interest in learning more.
I had heard that the Church had some training programs to help people who were struggling to find employment. I sought a referral to participate in the Deseret Industries (DI) training program to develop my skills and become a certified nursing assistant. I felt motivated in my plan to become a CNA because of the help of my job coach and development team at the DI. Their support with planning and executing my short term goals, and eventually with receiving my certificate, really drove me to pursue a much better life for myself.
I swiftly progressed through the DI program and completed customer service and career workshop classes. I made many friends among my co-workers. During this time of great discovery, I also took interest in the teachings of the Church and later became a member with the help and encouragement of my husband and the missionaries.
My time spent at the DI proved that a dream worth pursuing and working hard to accomplish is only the beginning of greater possibilities. I have successfully completed all my requirements for my CNA and I was able to find a job in my field shortly after. I enjoy my work and those that I watch over and care for; moreover, I’m grateful for the training and personal improvement skills I received at the DI that prepared me for better things in the future.
