As a new immigrant to the United States, my English was not very good. I also lacked job skills and work experience. My friends suggested I go to Deseret Industries. Not only did DI become my first job, it became an amazing opportunity to learn and grow.

I wanted to improve my life and not worry about my future. At DI, I found supervisors and development counselors who were willing to help me grow in confidence and skills.There were several times that I was advanced beyond what I thought I could do, but my supervisors’ confidence in me pushed me through those times. As I spoke with customers, my ability to understand and speak English also improved.

I was excited when I was given the opportunity to attend school. I had several setbacks in school, such as not passing tests. My supervisors were there to help me understand how to get through these struggles and many other difficult life situations.

Because of my experience at Deseret Industries, I have more confidence; I am better able to communicate in English; I have more patience with customers; and, I am a certified pharmaceutical tech! After a few weeks in the Accelerated Job Search program, I was able to find a position, interview, and be hired as a full-time pharmaceutical tech at a pharmacy.
