My experience at Deseret Industries was great! My job coach trainer worked with me to learn my assignment and made it challenging for me. This made it a more fun working environment. I learned that my job, like any job, has its ups and downs, things you like and things you don't like. But that's just a natural part of life. I started out tagging small as-is items and found it a nice change from my previous employment of making pizzas.
My goal at DI included studying for my GED while working at DI. It was tough for sure, but I eventually achieved my GED with great scores. After a while, I became a pricer for the small as-is department and was given a lot of responsibility. I was always a very quiet person, and still am, but I feel that being put into that position has helped me grow socially and become more confident in talking to people.
Not long after I got my GED, I was planning to work on some college classes, but I changed my mind and decided to go on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I feel like every moment I spent at DI was preparing me for my mission. Hard work, waking up at 5:30 every morning to get to work, balancing my money, talking to all different kinds of people, and learning to teach others were some of the things that I learned.
I know the Lord sent me to live where I am now, so I could meet the people I have met in order to shape my life. I am grateful to those people who helped me get to where I am now.
