I hit an all-time low while facing many family issues and not being able to find a job. I became very depressed and completely lost myself. My uncle suggested talking with my bishop about working at Deseret Industries to improve my social skills and gain work experience.
I had been a less active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a long time, so I was very hesitant about asking for help. Finally, I got the courage to see him. I started working at the DI a few weeks later. I was assigned a job coach and we discussed my future goals and ambitions. I could really tell that he cared for me and wanted to help me reach my goals so I could improve my life and situation.
After weighing my options, I decided to become a dental assistant. The DI helped me finance some of the tuition. I graduated with my dental assistant, radiology, and CPR certificates. I participated in a business partnership as an assistant to an oral surgeon, which I loved and learned so much from.
My life has been totally turned around thanks to Deseret Industries. Not only did the DI help with a job and with school, but they helped me to develop my social skills and my testimony of the Church grew so much. I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of all the job coaches and new friends that I made at Deseret Industries.
