For 29 years my life was happy and full of joy being a housewife and mother to my six children—until tragedy struck. It all changed one New Year’s when my husband of 37 years had a heart attack. He had multiple heart attacks and our medical bills became astronomical. I knew I needed to return to the workforce to supplement our income.
I decided to speak with my bishop regarding my family’s situation. He referred me to the LDS Employment Resource Center. I completed an employment profile and began searching for jobs. While I was there, I was informed about the Deseret Industries training program. I was amazed at all of the opportunities Deseret Industries provides.
With a referral from my bishop, I applied to DI and was enrolled in the program. I worked with a job coach and a development specialist who helped me create my plan. I was in my third week of training, when I was offered a business partnership to work as a customer service representative for a great company.
I had only been in the business partnership for one week, when my supervisor approached me regarding a job. At first I was concerned, because I needed to have a resume. I spoke with my job coach and he helped me create one using my employment profile from the employment center as my guide. I was interviewed for the position and was offered the job on the spot. What a gift!
If you are determined and committed to do whatever is necessary to get a job, DI is your avenue. Thank you Deseret Industries.
