Lucas always makes an effort to find a silver lining in difficult circumstances. When he was little, he had to be placed in state custody and spent time in four different homes.

“As horrible as going into state custody was, I didn’t let it bother me," Lucas says. "It gave me a lot of different experiences.”

Lucas's experiences have brought him to DI, where he's gaining additional work experience while he chases his goal of driving dump trucks or other large vehicles.

When asked how his experience at DI is helping him pursue his dreams, Lucas emphasized the resources and connections available to associates. He particularly loves working with the DI job coaches and the support they give him. 

“It's great to meet some good, honest people who try to understand you and help you achieve what you want in life,” Lucas says. “If there is a problem, I can work with them instead of just leaving it to my own devices.”
