Jeff is a real DI enthusiast. He has been to every single Deseret Industries store, even those that are no longer in operation. That’s 57 stores! Jeff has been visiting Deseret Industries in search of historical books since he was in his early 20s, and he is now almost 70.
He loves hunting for signed books, and in the past he has found quite a few special signatures. Over the years he has found complete sets of old books by picking up different volumes at various stores.
In addition to books, Jeff also loves finding ties and things for his grandkids at Deseret Industries. “I think I’ve found lots of treasures,” he says, smiling. Many of Jeff’s finds have interesting stories with them, such as the time that he found $300 tucked inside an old book at the Federal Way store in Washington.
Jeff first became interested in historical religious books after serving an LDS mission in England and coming across an old Bible. The history fascinated him and started his lifelong love of old books. “It’d be like selling a kid to sell one of my books,” he says.
Jeff’s wife, Mary, comes along for the ride. “I call it his treasure hunt,” she says. Mary enjoys looking for dresses at Deseret Industries. In the past, she’s been blessed to find dresses she needed when she struggled finding them at the mall.
On March 22, Jeff and Mary were able to add a new store to their list. They traveled almost 400 miles from their hometown in Utah to be able to attend the grand opening of the newest Deseret Industries in Ammon, Idaho. And they were some of the first people in line, waiting for the store doors to open. That’s some real DI dedication.
There’s something for everyone at Deseret Industries. Visit your local store to find a treasure of your own today.
