When Daniel first enrolled in the job training program at Deseret Industries, a whole new world opened up to him. 

“I learned that there are possibilities to not just work behind a desk,” he says. 

Daniel recently began as a DI associate after coming to the United States from his native country of Ecuador, where he worked at a local hotel. 

“My job responsibilities were to maintain the hotel and help in its administration,” Daniel says. 

Although Daniel enjoyed the administrative position, he was thrilled about the opportunity to work with his hands at Deseret Industries. Now, he is leveraging the strengths he gained from previous employment to contribute in his role on the dock and make connections with others. 

“I love meeting people,” Daniel says.

As Daniel reflects on his five months in the DI job training program, he sees how his confidence has grown. He is working on personal and professional goals and plans to utilize the resources available through DI to improve his English. 

“I have learned camaraderie and working as a team,” Daniel says. “But more than anything, I have learned about my own abilities.”
