A couple of years ago, life was going very well for me. My brother and I were running an auto detailing business and becoming very successful. Soon, my world was flipped upside down when I lost my brother in a motorcycle accident. I slowly started to pull away from loved ones and live one day at a time without caring about the consequences. I went from job to job and place to place. After a while, I got back on track and landed a great job in auto detailing, but soon I left to pursue the love of my life. Jobless and with no money, I discovered my driver’s license was suspended due to an outstanding ticket. I searched diligently, but without a license, I was unable to find steady work.
I met with my bishop who told me about a program that could help me get back on my feet: Deseret Industries. I was hesitant. I had been successful and didn’t feel I needed that type of help. My incredible job coach trainer, however, from the very first day helped me see that my potential was still high, and that my goals and aspirations of succeeding again were realistic. So, I set out on my journey through Deseret Industries program. In just a short time, I received assistance with research, goals, and career objectives. I was told I possessed many leadership qualities. A few months later, I learned that I was being considered for a lead role in production. That night I went home and told my fiancé of my amazement that I was able to succeed and feel the fire again.
Throughout the next month or so, my job coach trainer and I worked hand-in-hand to fine tune my leadership skills. When the day came that I was officially promoted to a lead, I realized that the objectives and goals I had set for myself at DI were accomplished. Knowing that Deseret Industries was not the end, but just a building block, I interviewed with a company that deals strictly with air-cooled engines in foreign cars. I was offered the job, with great pay and benefits. I am very eager to get back into this industry and move forward with my life.
Now one life’s page is closed and another is opened. I must say, that if it weren’t for the Lord, my family, my supportive wife, and a job coach trainer who cared about me, it would have been difficult to emerge from the rut that had immersed me. I would like to sincerely thank all of them. As for now, this is where the next chapter of my life begins!
