When my family moved to live with my great aunt, there was no money coming in. I spoke with my bishop about the possibility of working at Deseret Industries (DI). He gave me a referral and helped me get signed up. This was indeed a blessing for me and my family.
I really enjoyed working at DI. The people are so nice and good to work for. My job coach helped me enroll in a training course to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). I had worked in nursing homes for many years and wanted to find employment at a hospital. I finished the program, passed the test, and received my CNA license!
When my time in the DI training program was almost over, my job coach and I talked about the Advanced Placement Program. This is a program for associates who have proven themselves to receive paid-time to participate in an advanced-placement course where they learn how to plan and carry out their job search.
I applied for a CNA position at a hospital. It took a long three weeks before I heard back. I went to the interview prepared and confident. Within three days of my interview I was hired.
I am thankful for the opportunity I had to work at DI. I thank everyone that has helped me to succeed in getting the dream job I always wanted.
