My life of living happily ever after had ended. It was the lowest, darkest point in my life. My marriage was ending in divorce and I didn’t know where to turn. Then a good man, my bishop, offered me assistance. He wanted to help me, even though I had a difficult time believing it. After listening to my story, he offered me a referral to the Deseret Industries training program.
I avoided using my referral for some time, but eventually I went to DI for an interview. I sincerely felt that no one would want to hire me. I could not even make eye contact with the development counselor I met with. I thought I was dreaming when the DI called and invited me to join the program.
When I first began, I worried every day that I was going to be fired, that I didn’t have the skills I needed to be successful. Every time I met with my supervisors, I got nervous. Then I got to know the managers and my job coach. I quickly realized that they did care about me and saw the potential I had to be successful. I decided that I wanted to show them that I was a great team player and could work as hard as the next person. It wasn’t long before I was offered the lead position in the small-as-is processing area.
Life was going well until I had an accident. This accident could have ended my life, my job, and everything I had worked for. Although it took quite a long time for me to recover, I returned to the Deseret Industries where they were willing to work with me so I might complete my training. Thanks to the help and support of DI, I have a new job in a management position, with the confidence that I have the skills I need to be successful and live my happily ever after once more.
