I had the privilege of participating in the Deseret Industries training program nine years ago. From this experience I acquired the skills I needed to move on to a good job working at a large retail store. Then suddenly, I lost my job. I was unable to find suitable employment and turned to my bishop for his help. I once again received the great opportunity of working and training at DI.
Nine years before I had trained in various positions, from truck helper to custodian. When I returned, I was assigned to the small as-is department. I was then promoted to be a custodian again. Since my return, I have had fork-lift training, training as a cashier, and have had experience with the public on the sales floor. I also attended career workshops offered through LDS Employment Resources. We held mock interviews that helped me gain the confidence I needed as I reached out for full-time employment.
I was able to interview for a new position working as a cashier and front end person for a great company. I got the job! I am grateful for the Deseret Industries training program and the many innovative ways they use to encourage associates to find new and better employment. I am grateful for the classes that are offered which raise morale and build self-esteem. Thank you DI!
