I have a past that is riddled with abusive relationships and addiction. I have always felt that my life could be different, but I had no idea how to get there, and I honestly didn’t have the self-confidence to do it alone. I tried for quite a few months to find work and move forward with my life, but my past continued to haunt me. In the process, I lost whatever confidence remained. At that point, I decided it was time to speak with my bishop for his help and advice. My bishop referred me to Deseret Industries.
The support and encouragement I received at DI was amazing! The staff helped me to see and work toward reaching my true potential. I discovered I had many leadership qualities as I was given an opportunity to prove myself. My self-confidence began to soar and my performance at work began to increase, and it wasn’t too long until I was offered the position as lead in clothing production. This position allowed me an opportunity to work with and help co-workers from every walk of life. I now realize that I have the ability to be a leader, and that I am capable of reaching any goal I set for myself in life.
I have since enrolled in college. I have a long way to go before I get my degree, but I am well on my way. My ultimate goal is to become a drug and alcohol counselor. And, for the first time in my life, I am able to support myself and be available in every way for my children. None of this would have ever been possible without the love, support, and encouragement I received while training at Deseret Industries, and for that, I am truly grateful.
