When I was forced to flee my home, career, and family in Cameroon to escape an abusive situation, I lost everything, except my faith in God. I hope my story will inspire others who have lost hope to never give up – never give up.
Through membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I learned the importance of being financially self-reliant. With a referral to Deseret Industries, I was able to achieve this goal through the job training and support I was offered. At Deseret Industries I was trained in the art of clothing retail and was provided an opportunity to attend classes to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). DI then arranged for me to participate in a business partnership where I gained valuable experience working as a CNA. I am now working as a CNA.
Becoming self-reliant has truly freed my spirit. It has strengthened my self-confidence and has enabled me to become a helping hand to others. My experience proves that as long you hope for a better future, work hard, and endure through hardships, you can truly do amazing things and accomplish your goals.
The Deseret Industries program has helped to strengthen my faith. I am forever grateful to everyone who has helped me become truly free.
