I worked in a school for thirteen years, but I left when I felt that that the environment was no longer good for me. It was not a good situation and I was deeply hurt by some things that happened. I wanted to work someplace where people would treat me well and not put me down. I am grateful that my bishop referred me to DI, because I soon discovered that Deseret Industries was this place.
When I started at DI, I tagged items with prices. After a while, I wanted to learn something else. I asked to work with shoes. I now know how to sort and size shoes, and how to mark them. While working with shoes, I learned how to organize my time to make things flow in a timely manner and how to meet goals. Now, I don’t need any supervision, and since I have been in charge of the shoes, the store has seen a double-digit increase in sales!
I enjoy the friends I have at DI and being a team worker. I know that what I do makes a difference because I am an important member of a very special team.
