When I expressed a deep desire to change jobs to find a better working environment, I was led to the training program at the LDS Humanitarian Center. I had been driving truck, but I needed some additional job skills that would make me even more employable. I also needed help and direction in searching for a new job.
The LDS Humanitarian Center is part the Deseret Industries training program. At the center, we learn on-the-job work skills and also have opportunities to receive certification in other areas. I earned my forklift certification. It was challenging, but this new certification made a wonderful addition to my resume when I began my job search.
I am very grateful for my job coach who believed in me and who used her contacts to help me find new employment opportunities. It was through her efforts and follow-through that I found a position where there was just the right environment that I needed and wanted. I passed the interview and proved that I had the skills necessary for this new job. Now I work around positive people and love what I do. I now have an opportunity to be a positive influence on others as well. This is a lifetime job, working with people I care about and who care about me. I am so grateful.
