I had experienced some emotional setbacks and trials when I came to work at Deseret Industries. My mother had recently died and I could not find suitable employment because I lacked experience and my high school diploma. I soon found out that Deseret Industries could help me with these setbacks. I met with my development counselor and we made a plan.
To be honest, at first I struggled. My development counselor and job coach, however, held me accountable when I didn’t progress. With their encouragement, I got my priorities straight and started to make good progress. I cracked down and completed my diploma. I also completed a supervisor class and a forklift class. I became OSHA certified for forklifts. Through my DI training, I have learned valuable job skills and a good work ethic. I’ve learned how to supervise a team and assign tasks. My managers can trust me to complete tasks.
I have built a lot of meaningful friendships at Deseret Industries, and I would even say they have become like a second family to me. They have been very supportive through my trials and struggles. They do really love us and care about our future.
