I was in a dark place after I was released from serving a three-month sentence for drug possession. I had hit a very low point and didn’t want to continue living this way. I knew I needed to make a drastic change if I were to live a meaningful life. When I could not find employment, I began to lose hope. I felt as if I had no options. I was very discouraged. I visited with my bishop, and he referred me to Deseret Industries (DI).
DI took me in as if I were family, and I began to be hopeful again. I learned how to work better with others and how to cope with life’s challenges in healthy ways. My job coach constantly encouraged me to become better and not be defined by my past. With support and encouragement, I was able to regain the confidence in myself I had lost and to recognize that I could accomplish great things when I put my mind to them.
With long-term sobriety and a positive outlook on life, I secured employment driving a truck for a local waste management company. I love my job and the people I work with. I see this as a long-term career. One of my routes includes DI!
DI provided me with a fresh start and renewed hope for a brighter future.
